2024 ROTC Alumni Rendezvous Weekend
Another Rendezvous for the books! The tradition of Ram Battalion and Detachment 90 alums, coming together with Student Veterans and our entire campus community, to celebrate our beloved land-grant legacy remains steadfast.
ROTC Alumni toured the Military Science Building and Annex, watched cadet demos, and engaged in some quality story sharing. Then, on to the Iris and Michael Smith Alumni Center for more social time, and an on-field ceremony honoring our third Stalwart Ram Wall of Fame induction, MG (Ret) Steve Abt for Army ROTC, and Deb Terry for Air Force ROTC. Deb and Steve were presented with engraved COMATOSE cannon rounds, surrounded by friends, family, and fellow Rams.
The Veterans Tailgate and the Border War game at home this year were incredible! COL (Ret) Dorothy Clark was presented with the Bronze Boot Run colors.
THE BOOT IS BACK!! Fight on you stalwart Ram Team, On to the goal!
2023 ROTC Alumni Rendezvous Weekend
ROTC Alumni Rendezvous is growing! Over 200 ROTC alums, along with cadets and cadre of the Ram Battalion and Det90, Student Veterans, and CSU Leadership, came together to celebrate the 141 year legacy of military training at Colorado State University. As is now tradition, ROTC students from both programs demonstrated skills for alums at the MSA. After loads of reminiscing and reconnecting with classmates, alums made their way to the Iris and Michael Smith Alumni Center for a reception, culminating with our second Stalwart Ram Wall of Fame induction, COL (Ret) Pete Bleich, Jr. for the Army side of the house, and Joan Prebish for Air Force ROTC. Each were honored with an on-field ceremony at Canvas Stadium and engraved cannon round, along with staunch CSU ROTC supporter and alumnus, MG (Ret) Bob Halverson who was inducted in our first Stalwart Wall of Fame class. The Veterans Tailgate the next day ahead of the Border War game in WY also did not disappoint. The community building at ROTC Rendezvous with military and the university is unmatched! Alums from across the decades, student veterans, and CSU staff came together to honor and celebrate our legacy that began in 1883. Proud to be!
Rendezvous 2022 Highlights
Alumni attendance increased four times since the first ROTC Rendezvous in 2021. Det90 and Ram Battalion grads ranged from ’57 to ’22. The open house at the Military Science complex where “it hasn’t changed a lick” was routinely heard, kicked off the festivities. Alumni then attended a reception hosted by the Alumni Association followed by an on-field ceremony at Canvas Stadium for the arrival of the Bronze Boot Ball Run and induction of the first members of our ROTC Stalwart Wall of Fame, MG (Ret.) Robert Halverson ‘63 and Col Sheldon Godkin PAS ’79-83.
CSU recognized Military, Veteran, and ROTC during Military Appreciation game in epic fashion. Veteran Services and the Alumni Association hosted a joint ROTC/Student Veteran tailgate that was attended by more than 200. CSU Athletics invited ROTC Alumni to stand behind the football team as they took the field, the ROTC Advancement Council was honorary color guard, and Veterans and ROTC alumni alike were called out by seating section. 4ID display team was also recognized on field: M777, Stryker, JLTV, UH-60, and AH-64 with pregame fly over.
The CSU President guest of honor was COL (Ret.) Mike Matthies (Honorary Cannoneer), APMS at CSU from ’85-88. MG (Ret.) Halverson ’63 was the Alumni Association’s guest of honor and rang the stadium’s Old Main Bell, officially ending the tailgate. Many alums in attendance talked of making the ROTC Alumni Rendezvous weekend part of their annual tradition, planning their own class reunions to coincide.

Rendezvous 2021 Highlights
CSU ROTC alumni and current cadets gathered in front of the historic Military Science and Annex buildings for an evening of celebration at the first ROTC Alumni Rendezvous. Alumni were shown the new Army Combat Fitness Test, demonstrated by the CSU Army ROTC Ram Battalion, and then moved to the back lawn for a drill and ceremony performance by the Air Force ROTC Detachment 90.
Following the demonstrations, alumni had the chance to try out their sharpshooter capabilities on the smokeless range inside the Annex. Refreshments, appetizers, and good stories were served throughout the evening while cadets had the chance to thank their scholarship donors personally for their generous contributions. The inaugural Rendezvous event inspired what is now a much anticipated annual CSU ROTC alumni tradition!
