SFC Kent entered the Army in 2008, then attended Infantry One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Ft. Benning, GA. After OSUT, SFC Kent was stationed at Fort Stewart, GA in 2nd Battalion 7th Infantry Regiment worked through the positions of Rifleman, Bradley Driver, and Bradley Gunner. SFC Kent conducted three combined arms gunneries, multiple team and squad live fire exercises, three combat training center rotations and earned the expert infantryman’s badge during this time on Fort Stewart. SFC Kent took the position of Team leader while deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and OPERATION NEW DAWN from December 2009 to December 2010.
SFC Kent permanently changed stations to Fort Carson, CO in March 2011 where he served in 1st Battalion 8th Infantry Regiment as a Section Leader in a Mechanized Infantry Platoon. He completed team and squad level live fire exercise and two other combat training center rotations. He completed Bradley Master Gunner school in September of 2012 and served as the Battalion Master Gunner. He helped plan resources and complete the first Combined Arms Gunnery to platoon level on Fort Carson in a decade. Shortly after that training event SFC Kent was selected by Headquarters Department of the Army for Recruiting duty. He permanently changed stations to Norfolk, NE for 36 months to conduct recruiting duty. He completed a bachelor’s degree in business administration and after recruiting duty, he re-enlisted to return to Fort Carson, CO April of 2017. Where he served as a Squad leader until taking a Platoon Sergeant position in Alpha Company 2nd Battalion 23rd Infantry Regiment. Serving as a Platoon Sergeant, SFC Kent conducted two platoon level live fires, three team and squad level live fire exercises, and four gunneries. SFC Kent also Deployed to Afghanistan in support of OPERATION FREEDOM SENTINAL from July 2018 to Jan 2019. Later in 2019 SFC Kent was hand selected from the Division Command Sergeant Major to be the 2nd Brigade Master Gunner facilitating the transition to a Stryker Brigade Combat Team. The transition of 2nd Brigade lasted until the summer of 2021 where SFC Kent would be selected by Headquarters Department of the Army for Drill Sergeant Duty. After completing Drill Sergeant Academy SFC Kent permanently changed stations to Fort Benning for 24 months where he facilitated the change of civilians into soldiers. During Drill Sergeant Duty he completed air assault, rappel master, and master fitness courses. He has influenced over 1000 trainees to become the premier fighting force of the Army and earn the right to be called Infantry during his time as Drill Sergeant. In the fall of 2023, he permanently changed stations and currently is assigned to Colorado State University and University of Northern Colorado as a Military Science Instructor.

SFC Steven Kent grew up and ran a business in Fort Collins, CO starting in 1998. He is married to the former Britni Crane from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and they have a 16 year old son, Gavin, a 11 year old daughter, Raleigh, a 11 year old son, Aidan, a 10 year old son Isaac, a 9 year old son, Elijah, a 5 year old son, Oliver, and a 4 year old son, Landon.
